Some Hastings Men's Network started in November 2021 to create a healthy masculine culture for men in the town and was initiated by Chris Richards. Chris was the first conductor of A Band of Brothers Hastings (mentoring and rites of passage for young men, 18-25, at risk/involved with the criminal justice system in the town) and is a coach and holistic counsellor. Men find their own path with Hastings Men's Network, attending events and connecting with others when this works for them. Some of the benefits for men have been increased confidence, connecting with new men, sharing their gifts and talents and learning new skills. Initial funding was received from Brighton MIND for the initial pilot 2021/22 project. Making it Happen fund the Green Man, Green Shoots, Green Economy project in 2023/24. As well running our own events we promote and signpost men to other men's groups in the town as well as supporting others to setup their own events and groups. Some of the other men involved in the men's network include walks leaders Anton (Speckled Wood & Fairlight Glen & HMN stalls at events), Alan (St Helens Woods full moon walks), Chris (Church Wood & Summerfields Woods), Scott (sauerkraut making), Rich (photography workshop), Stephen (yoga), Glenn (garden host for men's fire circles). Some of our partnerships include with Hughenden Road Pocket Park for practical sessions, Common Room for skill sharing events, Wellington Centre for film showings, Church Wood Community Orchard, Art in the Park and the other groups doing great things with and for men in Hastings & St Leonards. Hastings Men's Network is a community group and supported by many men. Transition Town Hastings is hosting our Green Man, Green Shoots, Green Economy project and this is funded by Making it Happen. |
